Aurat march

On March 8, women around the world mark a day they call their own – International Women’s Day, highlighting achievements and dialoguing about issues still unresolved. The Women’s Day theme this year is #BreakTheBias, underscoring the idea that it is not enough to acknowledge the existence of bias. Action is necessary to achieve equality.

While the rest of the world is devising strategies to improve conditions for women, Pakistani women face the challenge of whether or not they will even be allowed to share their issues on a public forum on this day.

Since 2018, Pakistani feminists have been organizing large public demonstrations for Women’s Day called Aurat — the Urdu word for women — March. Opposition to Aurat March has grown in proportion to its popularity and impact.

I tried to attended the march of 8 march 2022 Karachi , which was held in Jinnah park, but their security didn’t allowed us to join them later I discovered that at that time two marches were in progress in Karachi one I named elite march which was I n Jinnah park where they did not allowed join to join we also showed them our university card as well as, and request them that is our university assignment to cover this event but they didn’t allowed us to enter  but I observed that this march was not for rights this march was for fun and entertainment.

And the second I named as middle class march where women were gather to raise their voice and demand for their rights.

Aurat March Karachi is calling for Social Security, demanding Ujrat, Tahaffuz, Sukoon -- Wages, Security, Peace, justice for rape victims, reproductive health and transgender rights.

I am not against Aurat march but I’m against this elite march, those who oppose Aurat March must realize that it is important for all of us to work together to break the biases that hold back half our population.
